INTRODUCING CONVERSATIONAL COPYRIGHT ©©.
Dear Fellow Reticent Geniuses,
Keep great ideas to yourself all the time?
Have amazing thoughts but you’re stingy about speaking them aloud because no one appreciates you and they’ll fucking steal them and not even remember it was your idea in the first place?
Are people always saying to you, “That’s actually a great idea.” - - ? As though by them acknowledging that your great idea is great, the idea now has credibility after getting this ass-hat’s stupid recognition?
Are you a woman? Just guessing here…
Reluctant to share the awesome things you think with people because you’re afraid they’ll turn them into musicals before you get around to doing it yourself?
Are even your observations so astute and hilarious that it bums you out to share them with people who aren’t sharing such awesome observations with you so if they aren’t keeping up their part of the bargain, why should you just be dropping gems for them to pick up and take to the fucking bank?
Or maybe you can’t help saying brilliant things all the time and you’re annoyed that people will repeat them and get credit for your genius.
Conversational Copyright is the answer.
Simply shout, “CONVERSATIONAL COPYRIGHT [THE YEAR, YOUR NAME]” after your brilliant utterances to lock in your ownership of your witticisms and ideas.
How do you think the people who are always quoted kept their iron grip on their quotes? Seriously. How do they do that? Was Bartlett of Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations always following famous people around and writing down what they say?1
They didn’t use Conversational Copyright because I just made it up.
Use it in your writing by crediting ©© after the brilliance you’re sharing and to credit other people’s brilliance/hilarity too.
Usher in a freer flow of ideas by thwarting idea pirates.
Now you can keep it to yourself without having to keep it to yourself.
You’re welcome!

HOLY CRAP! I just discovered that Bartlett (Of Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations) took “his” idea of a book of quotations from a woman - Isabella Rushton Preston - AS DID the Oxford Dictionary Of Quotations (Alice Mary Smyth)!!!! Read the fascinating article titled “Anonymous Was A Woman,” ©© Virginia Woolf in the Yale Alumni Magazine by Fred R Shapiro here. !!!! Isabella Rushton Preston and Alice Mary Smyth, all due credit.
👍🏻😉
Bloody good idea.
And further exploring Kai’s comment earlier, my fellow Australians that I have associated with; would use the threat (again in jest) :
“ Or I’ll hunt you down and gut you like a fish !”
